Micheal lead Vegas out into the bright son from the dark barn, it was at least 4:00 am, he did not check but went to bed early enough to wake up at this time, he usually woke up around 6:00 am but today was Vegas's race.
Vegas walked slowly next to him, her head high, ears perked with alert and nostrils flaring, letting out deep snorts as her own warm hair smoked into the cool air and vanished before her eyes. She knew she was going to race today, and she was ready, she was as pumped up as usual.
Micheal lead her into the pasture and let her run loose and graze for about an hour. So in the mean time he wait in the office for Amy, they were to leave and return together since both of their horses were racing today.
He went through a little bit of the paper work, he had been highered to do a bit of it anyway so why not do it now while he had nothing better to do?
Vegas on the other hand had plenty things to do, she galloped playfully around in the pasture with one of the stable foals named Starlight, she was a frisky black filly who would be a beautiful gray when she turned into a mare.[/i]

Amy Lee rushed to get up, but as always, Lithium was up first. "Hello boy!" she patted his ebon head and ran into the dark stables, grabbed his racing tack, travling stuff and two blueberry muffins. The slim girl was out of the barn in a split second and tied Lithium up to the trailer. "Now I'll be right back, no misbehaving!" she warned the big black stallion before she jogged off into the office. Micheal was doing paperwork when she walked in, so she decided to let him know she was ready to leave. "Hi, me and Lithium are ready to get going!" she exclaimed, her excitment was about to burst. Amt thought they had a really good chance, her and Lithium were going up against American Dream, Mur The Blur, Lopsided Grin, Whiskey Girl and the toughest of the four, Black Fire Steam. But she thought they might make it, after all she knew Black Fire always started in full speed at the first mile, which would slow her down at the end. 'All we have to do is put full gear in at the last mile..' Amy thought to herself while waiting for Micheal to reply to her..[/color]

Micheal looked up quickly to Amy, he had one of those clueless looks on his face and he smiled"Well good morning my sugar plum" He said jokingly and nodded"I will pack up her stuff and I will fetch her than we can get on the road" He said and jogged out from the office.
He walked into the tack room and grabbed her racing tack, his track suit which was of the stable colors, blue and red, and of course a luggage case of treats and other things for Vegas, and her grooming box.
Last of all he grabbed his packed bag of clothing and packed it all into the trailer.
Whistling loudly as he began to walk toward the pasture he looked out for Vegas she she came loping to the locked gate, she began to nicker.
Micheal clipped a lead shank onto her two stitched halter and opened the gate, she trot out quickly tossing her head back like and untamed mustang, Micheal knew she was just ready to race, and she would be like this till she was on that track.
He lead her to the trailer and load her in, putting her into one of the trailer stalls he went back into the barn and got a bail of hay, he put it in the storage area of the trailer and filled two hay bags and hang them from the stalls were Lithium and Vegas would be in.
Than he walked back to where Amy was"Let's get on the rode"[/i]

Amy Lee blushed at the joke, different emotions flooding her body, but shook it off, afterall, today was the raceday! She nodded and followed Micheal out of the office. While he went to get Vegas ready, she went to the trailer and unwraped Lithium's black and red polos. When she had them on his hocks, she pulled the matching blanket and head helmet, straped them on and quickly cliped his leadrope on the red halter. Amy and Lithium then saw Micheal and Vegas, both ready to go. She led the black beast up the trailer's ramp and patted his dial when he was in the stall. "Were gonna win today bud!" she whispered into his ear and walked out as he happilly munched on a carrot and some hay. Amy then walked to the side of the truck when Micheal approched her. "Okay, lets go!" she exclaimed and hopped up and into the truck..[/color]

Micheal smiled and rubbed Vegas's head from the window, she had already stuck her head out and was looking around cirously, she always was like this in trailers, she looked like as green horse who was extremly jumping and freaked out at everything.
But really, she was just hyped up for the race and nearly became green before the race, she had even broke out from the gate before a race once.
Micheal pushed her head into the window and closed it, she had gotten a rock in her eye once while sticking her head out the window so he rather not have that happen again. He got into the truck and onto the rode, 2 hours later he was tapping his fingers to the country music blaring on his radio.

Amy smiled, she loved these two. Micheal was easy to talk to and Vegas was full of friendliness. She also tapped to the country music beat. She then heard an excited squeal as they pulled into the racing track. The trailer started to shake, and Lithium's hooves pounded against the door. She smiled again and lept out of the door, grabed the hyped stallion and brought him to the side of the trailer, she then tacked him up and went to where Micheal was. "Whats your number? I'm gonna go register us.." she told him.[/color]

As they pulled into the drive way Micheal could hear Vegas whinnying, but not in exitment, but telling Lithium to shut up so of course Micheal rolled his eyes and laughed at the filly.
He hopped out from the truck and lead Vegas out, a crowd of people surrounded the trailer to see two racers coming out from the same trailer.
Micheal talked to a few people with camera's with Vegas at his side nearly ripping his arm off because she wanted some of the oats he had in the bag slinked over his shoulder and she wouls have to get to the stalls to get them. So Micheal brought her to the stall, at first she refussed to enter the no doored stall but Micheal dragged her in. With a huge struggle and the help from 5 other guys he was able to tack the exited filly who reared and bucked and threw her head back when ever she was tried to put in control. People walked by and stared at her with hope for Micheal, but he was not scared about getting on her, he knew she would listen once he did, even better when his boot slipped into the first sturup.
Micheal filled the bucket in the stall with oats and she through her head into it as soon as he pulled the bag away and finished it with in 5 minutes than she began to nip at the golden plate on the stall which read Miss Vegas.
Micheal pat her neck and looked to Amy"She's number 8" He told her and pat her neck than lead her to warm up.

"Alright!" Amy yelled over the noise and ran to the registering tent. "Number 8, Miss Vegas, and number 3, Lithium Energy." She yelled, as the judge with red glasses nodded. Amy flew out of the door and back to the trailer where a little crowd was standing their distance from her stallion. She walked up to him, making sure his tack and mask were on right. She then rn into the trailer, closed the door and slipped her jockey outfit on and ran back out. She grabbed Lithium's red and black reins and started to walk to the warm up arena, the crowd asking questions and reporters taking pictures. Amy smiled as Lithium struck a pose for each camera, he was born for the job. "C'mon boy, lets practise!" She said, leading him into the track meant for practising. She jumped on him and felt the saddle under her, and the reins in her hands... "Giddyup!" She screached, as Lithium burst into a gallop right away. Sh let him but pulled him short at the half mile marking. He squealed in protest but obeyed. She led him to the fence and sat down..[/color]

Micheal pressed a boot into the stirrup and the frisky filly who was rearing and pulling on the reins stood completely still, Micheal mounted up and trot her back to the trailer. He tied her reins onto the trailer and went inside where he put his track suit on and came out.
He then trot her to the practice track, her trot soon became rough and he turned her onto the track, her head jerking forward on the reins wanting to run but Micheal held her back, he tightened the reins, her ears perked, her bottom jaw now nearly pressing against her arched neck and nostrils paper thin.
Micheal kissed and picked up his jockey post as the filly busted into a gallop, a very quick one at that, they had tricks up their sleeves that brought them first across the line that used this quick gallop, and most of the reporters and people in the crowd new what these tricks were.
as they galloped to the last stretch Micheal flicked out his whip and snapped it on her flank, instantly the filly's ears glued back, head lowed and as if knowing that Micheal was going to snap the whip she quickly picked up her strides to long, gaits and into a very fast run. As they neared the finish line camera Micheal whipped her once more and she leaped across it.
Slowly but surely Micheal pulled her to a slow gallop, than to a quick trot.

Amy Lee stood at the fence, watching the team's workout. When Micheal stopped Vegas, she ran to them and smiled. "You guys were really moving out there!" She exclaimed. Then she gestured to Lithium, his black head held arched in the air. He let out a big whinny and thrusted his head at the frisky filly. He nudged her playfully and bolted towards Amy again. She laughed, and rubbed his neck passionately..[/color]

Micheal smiled"Thanks, we didn't try too hard" He laughed and Vegas snorted and looked at Lithium"Sorry buddy, she doesn't really like playing while she is at the track" He explained and than Vegas perked her ears as the announcer cleared his voice over the speakers"All 3 year old filly's get ready to enter the track"[/i] He spoke and several horses began to move toward the track, many pony horses also moved toward it in their western saddles.
Micheal waved to Maya and loped Vegas to the track, a bay quarter horse moved next to them and soon all the racers and their pony horses were in a line"will everyone please stand for the national anthem"[/i] The speakers rang again and so the crowd did, next everyone was sitting in their seats again, and people were talking loudly.
All the racers were being lead to the starting gates, Vegas trot next to the quarter horse, nipping it's neck and side stepping.[/sup]

Amy smiled as Lithium acted hurt that Vegas didn't play with him, his dial drooped as his made a sort of whine or snort noise. As Vegas's race was called, before they left Amy yelled "Good Luck!" and went into the crowd to find a seat. She found a seat close to the rail so she could see the whole race, she stood to sing the anthem, her voice was low but high. She was a beautiful singer, but never admited that to anyone. She waved at Micheal and Vegas, who were at the starting gate..[/color]

Micheal turned to look at Maya and returned her wave with a smile than quickly turned back to look at the man on the pony horse who was speaking to him"Good luck out there kid, this horse seems pretty crazy, can you get her to listen?" He asked and Micheal laughed"That's just her personality, she will be fine once she gets into the gate" He replied patting Vegas on the neck as she nibbled on the pony horse in a hyper manner.
"Alright, any trouble i am there, now let's get you in the gate" He said and walked his pony horse toward the gate and Vegas side trot next to him, tossing her head back and making a big fuss about getting in those gates.
Micheal just sat calm, grinning, and from the grin on his face he had big hope of winning"We can do this girl" He whispered and as soon as he finished speaking Vegas calmed down and walked into the gate.
The ten horses were in the gate and were all whinnying and freaking out, one even nearly ran through the gate. Vegas was surprisingly one of the more calmer ones, she never tossed her head back or anything, just nickered very quietly a few times.
The bell rang and the gates flew open, all horses ran from the gates in one long line, staying ahead of their gates, they all seemed pretty competitive, about four seconds after the gates opened the announcer echoed over the track"And their off"[/i] Vegas stayed more toward the back at her quick gallop as the rest grew into their racing group, there were about 3 more horses behind them.
Micheal held Vegas at this pace until they got to the first turn, than he loosened the reins a little bit more and Vegas took off a little faster, now 4 horses trailed behind her, on the stretch for the next turn Micheal slowly pushed her to the outside of the other horses and loosened the reins perfectly, her head loward, ears glued back and she raced into 3rd place"Miss Vegas is gaining ground and going for the old"[/i] the speaker echoed into Micheal's ears making him smirk. She quickly raced to second place staying nose to nose with the horse in first place who seemed to not want to let it's place in first go, on the last stretch Vegas let it all go and raced ahead, taking first, Micheal snapped the whip and this only made her go quicker.
Suddenly, right ahead of the finish line Vegas began to freak out and slowed down, Micheal pat her neck"What's wrong girl?" He asked the filly leaning forward a little more, the horse who was nose to nose with her before took first and she took second at a very slow gallop, as they passed the finish line in second Micheal jumped off from the saddle and grabbed onto her reins, she trot in circles, favoring her right hind quarter, Micheal tried to keep her calm but she just not listen, the pony horse and his rider galloped to the rescue and the cowboy above the pony horse grabbed onto her reins. Micheal stroked her head and she calmed down, she stood still now, her head pressed into Micheal's shoulder"Easy girl" He cooed watching her favored leg lift to her chest, stretch out and paw at the ground and continue this for a while.
The vet than ran onto the trailer and Micheal lead the injured filly off, her head low, and her thin, thoroughbred form moving with her large muscles.
Once off the track the vet looked at her leg and moved it around too see when it hurt her and where.
Soon the vet came to a reasoning, "She has shattered a few bones in her leg"[/i] He explained and Micheal's face dropped and he tried to hold back tear, she began to rub her neck as the vet put a cast on her leg"You can take her home, just don't work her too much, we will come check on her every second night for the next few months.
Micheal nodded"I am supposed to be breeding her tomorrow, would that still be alright?" He asked and kissed the fillies nose"Uh, yeah, that would be fine since she has her cast on"[/i] The vet replied and smiled"Hey baby will be mighty fine"[/i] He added trying to make Micheal feel better, Micheal just nodded and continued to stroke her"Will she ever race again sir?" Micheal asked and the vets smile when serious"That is a very very slim possibility, her leg will be very fragile"[/i] He said as if he were talking about a fragile little kitten, Micheal shook his head and still continued to pet his filly.[/sup]

Amy cheered on Vegas and Micheal as they lept out of the starting gate. She smiled, they were in the lead! It was near the last mile when she saw the filly start to limp, Amy's grin soon turned into a frown. She watched as the horse behind them crossed the finish line first. As soon as the crowd would let her, she dashed towards the filly and the depressed Micheal. "Omigosh! Is she alright?" Amy asked him, looking at Vegas's low dial and her favoured leg. She listened intently to the vet and rushed over to Micheal, and hugged him, trying to make him feel better..[/color]
